京都屈指の桜スポット、円山公園の桜の満開が近づいてきています。
円山公園の園内中央には、通称「祇園の夜桜」という有名な桜があります！
正式名は、一重白彼岸枝垂桜（ひとえしろひがんしだれざくら）といい、現在は二代目です。
「初代のシダレザクラ」は、根回り4m、高さ12m、樹齢200年余で、
昭和13年、天然記念物に指定されましたが、昭和22年枯死しました。
現在ある桜は、これに先立つ昭和3年に、15代佐野藤右衛門氏が初代のサクラから種子を採取し、畑で育成したものを、同氏の寄贈により、
昭和24年に現地に植栽したものです。
現在の容姿は、樹高12m、幹回り2.8m、枝張り10m。
満開が楽しみですね。
